I'm back here in the Dominican Republic now and we've been putting on summer camps here in a variety of communities....some out in the Bateyes. I love the Bateyes! There is such contrast between poverty and richness. Richness...not wealth. The people are so, so poor but are so rich with life in so many ways. They have almost nothing material....but are so rich in spirit. The kids have such richness to their smiles...their eyes are so vibrant when they smile. I could spend hours out in the bateyes just trying to capture a glimpse of that richness in a photograph.
